6 Questions to a better blog, a bloggers inquiry

Written by Christiaan

Topics: Off-topic posts

questionThis week I want to get more structure to my blog. To do so I need your help, there are a few questions I really would like your input on. Please do answer them in the comments, as the answers will help me build a better blog for you.

I’ve numbers the questions so it’s easier to answer them in the comment section:

  1. How would you describe the niche this blog is in?
  2. How many blogposts a week do you want to see here?
  3. What is the optimal postlength for you?
  4. Are there things on this blog that you are missing?
  5. Are there things you think I should do more?
  6. Are there things you think I should do less?

As a second option you can of course mail me the answers if you feel uncomfortable about posting them publicly or have other reasons not to use the comment section. The mail is Mindthebeginner(at)gmail(dot)com.

Also, if there is anything else that isn’t covered by this inquiry but you feel I should know please do tell me. I need your help.

Thank you, I really appreciate it.

2.) How many blogposts a week do you want to see here?

I’ve heard it said by many that one should post nearly every day while they are building their blog, but I think that’s a tad unrealistic. I commend you for doing so thus far, but I would never, ever expect it from a blog. I’m much more concerned with the quality of the writing, not the quantity.

If you can continue to churn out quality articles on a daily basis, kudos to you, but I don’t think it’s a necessity.

  2. # How would you describe the niche this blog is in?

Hi, just stopping by from ProB31… Christian, you answer this question yourself. You have entitled the blog Mind the Beginning.

Sooo… you really need to do a brainstorming on what that means to you and then focus on writing posts directly related to this subject.

    That’s your niche!

  3. 1. Opinion/Life Stuff … Not sure. Zen Maybe?
    2. 5 Maximum, 2 Minimum.
    3. That depends upon the post itself, but most posts should be shorter than 2000 words I think.
    4. If I’m missing it, how would i know?
    5. The cool minimalistic life type articles.
    6. Maybe the blog chores type stuff, but those are kind of nice too.

    Thanks!
And missing it… perhaps you’ve seen something on another blog you’d like to see here too. (E-mail newsletter, twitter plugin, something else) I don’t think I’ll ever write over 1000 words, mostly 400-600 I think.

    Good Day Christiaan,
    1. How would you describe the niche this blog is in? A thinking niche

    2. How many blogposts a week do you want to see here? As many you like. I prefer 2 to 4 a week.

    3. What is the optimal postlength for you? I never really notice lengths.

    4. Are there things on this blog that you are missing? There is but I can’t put my finger on it. I got it. You have really a couple of different blogs here. One blog seems about beginnings, zen like thoughts, another one is about a person who is building a blogs, his problems and his answers. And another which isn’t either.

    5. Are there things you think I should do more? I like your articles about building a blog. (Since we seem to have started about the same time.)

    6. Are there things you think I should do less? No.

  6. Christiaan,

I am going to go with ChickJ since I like the blog overall but you and I have fallen into the same trap. I have been posting about blogging on my personal success blog. The people that have started with us may want us to stick to what we are supposed to be doing. Maybe we could build a blogging blog together. I have a couple of domain names laying around.
    Peace,
    Steve

    Christiaan,

    1. I think that your niche is everything about “beginning” and “beginner”: fresh, open, simple.

    2. As many you like.

    3. Between 500 (frequently short posts) and 1,5000 (occasionally long ones).

    4. Some kind of themes (OK at the beginning, but beginners need direction and focus). I would suggest the following: philosophical/spiritual recommendations on living a successful life (your beliefs), helpful tips on life practicalities (your know-how), and open-ended zen-like reflections/questions (your search for meaning, as a perpetual beginner yourself).

    5. Be more critical and provocative in your writings to carve out your own identity in a very crowded field (personal development).

    6. Don’t publish just to fulfill your commitment of daily posts. Quality over quantity.

Man can I borrow your questions for my blog?
    Niche: Balance / Wellbeing / Spiritual…

I like the majority of my posts to be short enough that I can really enjoy it on a break and still have time to ponder. (Mine of course don’t always match this criteria – smile)

Post as often as you have something to say.
