As far as I can recall only two pictures on this entire blog are "mine". The picture of a pike I posted in a weekly update, and the picture of me on the about page. Every single other picture is from flickr creative commons. It's part of my writing habit to look on flickr for an image, I see no need in making them myself. So every time I finish a blogpost I look on flickr for a suitable image to go with it. Fitting it in the blogpost and provide a linkback to where I found it.

But frankly, I don't see the use of this discussion. I linkback and in that way give credit to those who took the pictures. In keeping things minimal I don't want to add extra fluff to my blog. An extra line of text just to give credit to a photographer who put up their work for free online anyways is fluff to me.

Thanks, but things will stay as they are

The "problem"
All the text is yours - a reader can tell because its on your blog

Some of the pictures are yours, some aren't. A reader can't tell by looking which are yours and which aren't. I'm sure you are "doing exactly that" - but would it hurt to put credits in captions?

The pictures certainly make the blog more interesting.

Hi Christiaan,

Your explanation in this post, sums up my understanding of of Zen very well.

After living in Japan for 12 years, I have never heard a Japanese person mention the word or idea of Zen. It is not something you read about and study, it is just a part of life.

In the west, it has been co-opted to mean "simple," but I don't feel that really encompasses the idea.

I have heard people call themselves "Zen masters" or "students of Zen" and try to market products or consulting services based on that association. I think that goes against everything that Zen is about.

It is similar to yoga. Putting on your $200 Lulu Lemon yoga outfit and driving your SUV to the gym to take a yoga class, is not what yoga is about.

I believe that many people have it backwards. You can't "try" to follow Zen. It is more about letting go, than something you chase after.

Then again, I am the the one speaking now. Perhaps, the best answer is from those that don't feel the need to comment.

The text on this blog is all mine unless quoted. The images are free to be used in whatever way you want (according to the licence) as long as you provide a linkback. Linkbacks are a for of internet currency and I'm doing the artists a favor by using their images. Their images get seen by hundreds.

If you move your cursor over the image you will find that the picture itself is a link to the particular image as uploaded on flickr. All the licence asks is that if I use an image that I give a linkback, nothing more, nothing less. I'm doing exactly that right?

So what's the problem? Because I don't get it.....

Why not give credit then? To a casual blog reader it looks looks like this is your text and pictures.
