1000 Hours to Your Dream Life

Topics: Challenging the Status Quo

There comes a time in your life when you realize that the way things are going is not how you want to be living. Right then and there you start developing an interest in personal development and you might even discover phrases like “digital nomad”, “lifestyle design” and of course the mandatory “4 hour workweek”.

For me that phase started back in 2008 when I didn’t know what to do with my life and went looking for a new education. At the time I just finished my training as exercise therapist and already that this wasn’t the life I wanted to live.

My Commitment: I will change my life completely, into what I want it to be

A few dozen books got read, a blog got started, an idea started to form in my mind, an ideal life that somehow seemed to be very realistic and at the same time very illusive. I wanted to become a location independent professional. Someone making a living through online marketing and so being able to live anywhere.

That was the ideal, and so far I still haven’t reached it although others around me that started out on that journey at the same time have. A kick in the head, a wake-up call. If I made an effort that could have been me! This is where I usually start wallowing in self-pity

The time for change has arrived

What is the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t?  That one has already been answered: they actually live like they want to, they do it. Scary as hell to leave the safety of the known and to dive in the deep and towards that life you want. What if it fails, what if you fail. At least you gave it your best!

And so the time has come to take that dive. You can wait all your life and look back and have regrets. Or you can look back, learn and start acting right this moment. Take the dive, commit to change. The time is now, there never will be another moment you can change.

Topics I’ve blogged about again and again. I talked the talked, but didn’t walk the walk. I’m a fake. That ends right now. As of this moment, a single commitment to change is put to paper:

1000 hours to make it happen

Within 1000 hours of actual work (using the 80/20 rule to be as effective as possible) I will change my life completely, into what I want it to be and I invite you to join me in starting your own plan to radically change your life into what you want it to be!

In my next blogpost we will be looking at what we actually want and how you can write that list of goals you need to accomplish to live that life you want. I’ll also present you with my exact goals.

In blogpost three of this series we’ll look at how exactly we are going to accomplish our goals. How do you define your goals so that you can actually measure success. I don’t know what will be in those two blogposts yet, they haven’t been written while I hit “publish” on this one.

It is time to take action, we are going to do this!

I like the idea of 1000 hours of true work. I think I’ll take your challenge and see what happens. That means if I want to succeed in 1 year I have to put in about 20 hours a week. And if I want to see it happen in 18 months I need to do 13 hours a week. I can do 13 hours a week – that is a feasible number for someone with a full time job and a very busy schedule. Thanks for the challenge!

More important than just putting in the hours is knowing exactly how you’re going to spend them.

What are your goals and can I help anywhere?

I agree you need to put in about 1000 hours of work i spread it over 5 months and now i’m exactly where i wanted to be. The thing I think is most important is being real, don’t lie to others and stop lying to yourself. Be who you are supposed to be and the blog, writing, and your life will be exactly where you want it to be.
